Romeo and Juliet as I read it: two men
have a conspiracy concerning me.
Watching me read. Helter Skelter, their looks
smolder. I do not think evil
that is not impulse, renewable, abhorrent
like the laughter of girls dusty,
clustered in a dune buggy,
is doable. Casting the spell
that would stick me
to conviction of craft
and execution. Of two boys
by la Nouvelle Vague—
them, the Seine, horizon. I
soaked my bicycle seat
over what this could mean. Maybe
I am slipping into something
I hope is not impulse. If I’m evil
I must be and stay
evil. They could buy me une café
so I could stay awake for days and wonder.
