Despite an odd affinity for referring to herself in third person, Kristy Bowen is a writer and visual artist who runs dancing girl press & studio, an indie press and design studio based in Chicago. In addition to offering a selection of paper goods, accessories, and vintage finds, dancing girl publishes a yearly limited edition chapbook series for women poets, runs the online lit zine wicked alice, and hosts occasional programming related to feminism, book arts, and poetics in its downtown studio space in the historic Fine Arts Building.

Kristy is the author of in the bird museum (Dusie Press, 2008) and the fever almanac (Ghost Road Press, 2006) as well as several chapbooks. Another collection, girl show, is forthcoming. She holds an MA in Literature from Depaul University and an MFA in Poetry from Columbia College.

Since poetry and art, however, are a highly rewarding but terrible paying occupation, she works in the library of an arts college. When she's not there or working in the studio, she lives in a big old drafty art deco building on the far north side near the lake with 4 mongrel cats and way too many books. Her passions include Joseph Cornell, victoriana, carnivals/sideshows, horror films, diagramatic things, archives, old scientific & botanical illustrations, architectural drawings, postcards, and all things paper.
